Setting out early for our Lake Powell boat journey. Lake Powell is man made, the result of a large dam which flooded this Utah/Arizona canyon country. The result is surreal-blue waters right next to dry desert mesas and buttes.
We spent the first day cruising and exploring, using our map like a treasure hunt....ooh, there is balancing rock! There is an arch! (There is a floating bathroom station!...a very exciting find)
Set up camp around 4 pm for happy hour on the beach. Our camp site included sandcastles, free of charge. Then cooked a hot meal on a small grill we purchased from the previous renter of our boat. A nice campfire, then off to the boat to sleep under the stars. For an hour. And then, the rains came, forcing us into the small cuddy for the remainder of the night. Not my best nights sleep-but it made sunrise positively welcome...which you know isn't something kat would usually say! Still this camping came closest to my ideal...no annoying campground neighbors, no loud music...just beautiful natural surroundings and the moon up above.
